The Happening – DVD Review
Oct 6, 2008, 14:26 GMT
Despite some easily forgiven logistical flaws, M. Night Shyamalan's first three films - 'The Sixth Sense', 'Unbreakable' and 'Signs' - were amazingly effective and confident thrillers. Sadly, Shyamalan's latest is the complete opposite. It is a film I'm tempted to call terrible and certainly his worst effort yet. ... moreNews

Touch Of Evil (50th Anniversary Edition) – DVD Review
Oct 7, 2008, 11:42 GMT
“They want Charlton Heston as a Mexican” is how a fictionalized Orson Welles described Touch of Evil in Tim Burton’s Ed Wood. That peculiar bit of casting might be amusing today, but one cannot argue with the fine film that Welles crafted. You could argue it until Welles’ cut was reassembled to his specifications. ... moreVertigo (Universal Legacy Series) – DVD Review
Oct 6, 2008, 16:23 GMT
One of Hitchcock's more impenetrable films and not originally well-received in 1958, 'Vertigo' was definitely ahead of it's time with it’s dense layering that offers more rewards on repeat viewings and this new 'Universal Legacy Series' release is the perfect way to reap those rewards. ... moreRear Window (Universal Legacy Series) – DVD Review
Oct 6, 2008, 16:00 GMT
One of Hitchcock's more indelible pictures and certainly one of his best, 'Rear Window' proves the ultimate ironic play on film as we the audience, voyeurs ourselves, basically watch and take part in the watching and voyeurism of the protagonists; stunningly simple and stunningly effective. ... morePsycho (Universal Legacy Series) – DVD Review
Oct 6, 2008, 15:25 GMT
If not Hitchcock's best, 'Psycho' is certainly his most iconic with isolated sequences that will forever be imprinted on filmgoer's minds. Oct 6, 2008, 13:04 GMT
Walt Disney’s animation classic is one of his film’s that is more akin to art. Disney’s other works are no less artistic, but pause any frame of Sleeping Beauty’s widescreen presentation and you’ve got a vision suitable for the Louve. ... moreThe Original Faces of Death: 30th Anniversary Edition - Blu-ray Review
Oct 5, 2008, 12:51 GMT
In 1978 the pathologist Dr. Francis B. Gross produced a documentary that purported to show real live deaths (hmmm, that doesn’t sound right). I know it was all the rage during my school years. Now it makes its Blu-ray debut in all its gory glory. ... moreTexas Chainsaw Massacre - Blu-ray Review
Oct 5, 2008, 12:38 GMT
I prefer to say Texas Chainsaw Massa-Cree, but I’m just funny that way I suppose. Rev up those high definition saws (they’re family by the way) as Dark Sky brings out the gory graphic classic horror film. They wisely port over the features from the Ultimate edition but also add some extra content. ... more
