August Rush is a 5 star winner. The music soundtrack is awesome. For all of of you who love Frank Capra...you will love this film.
'Freddie Highmore is okay in the role but he’s dangerously close to becoming the male Dakota Fanning – and his abundance of soggy fairy-tale pictures doesn’t help.'
Freddie should be so lucky.
Dakota Fanning has been in a number of PG-13 and R rated movies (Trapped, Man On Fire, Hide And Seek, etc.)
Your review had major flaws. Evan was not told about his parents. He trusted and believed that they were looking for him and went on a quest to find them. Evan did not want to be adopted for this very same reason, that, in his soul, his parents would find him if he left the orphange. In addition, Evan did not know that they were musicians because he was not told anything about them. He had the ability to play music because it was in his 'genes' and tied all the music together that his parents had played in their lives. Have you not heard of child protegies that started playing music at the age of two? To be able to play this well may seem a little far fetched; however, when it comes to spiritual matters, what about the miracles that abound every day if we only trust. Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers has one of the best chemistries that I have seen in the movie and it is a very pure way. I agree with the previous writer that this is very much like a Frank Capra movie, who is one of my favorite directors of all time, and would not have been able to make it in this day and age of cynics. Anyone who wants to be uplifted and feel good about life to create magic in their every day, buy this DVD and watch it anytime you want to feed your heart.
I agree with all of the comments. I even took my family to the movie and they all loved it as well.
Love the comparison to Capra. I thought this was a very enjoyable film. Freddie's character immediately draws you in. Also, I can appreciate the toning down of the sexual part of Freddie's parents' night together. The story is told innocently, as through the eyes of a child.
We are bombarded with negativity everyday. Just watch the news for an hour and see how you feel. The world needs more movies like 'August Rush'
