From Monsters and Critics.com DVD Reviews In this wonderful collection of six wildlife specials from 1994 through 1997 narrated by David Attenborough, the audience can experience some of the most glorious scenery and fascinating wild animals from around the world. BBC has put together a great packaged set, just in time for celebrating Earth Day! Through the years the members of our family have become nature special junkies. We love to watch the programs that take us far away from our lives and into the world of the animals, or to places in nature that are so remote, chances are none of us will ever venture there. With this superb collection from BBC, we have the opportunity to explore the habitat and lives of animals who are both beautiful and dangerous. We hunt with the Polar Bear –Artic Warrior, and shiver at the life of Crocodile – Smiling Predator. The mysterious Leopard – Agent of Darkness makes his appointed rounds, and we can soar over vast landscapes with Eagle – Master of the Skies. Or if you are in the mood, you may swim with Humpback Whale – Giant of the Oceans or get up close and personal with Wolf – Legendary Outlaw. And if these adventures aren’t enough, there is the glory of Great Natural Wonders of the World, and a truly WILD feature The Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth. Put all this together with the wise and witty words of David Attenborough, and you have a precious Earth Treasure for any family DVD collection. Presented in a two disc set, with a feature running time of 280 minutes, these specials also have subtitles in English available for the hearing impaired. Some of the animal behavior may be too intense for younger children, but for older ones the educational value is unlimited. Animals are shown in both touching and extreme situations, but presented with consideration for their natural behavior. The quality of the photography is excellent, and the information is understandable and will be retained by those watching. These features give audiences a stronger appreciation for some of the unique critters that share our world. As one ten year old told me not long ago, after watching the show on Leopard and Eagle, “you just can’t be depressed when you can see shows like these about animals.” We are in complete agreement! David Attenborough Wildlife Specials is now available at Amazon. As of yet, there is not a release date for this version of the DVD in the UK.
